Origin
The eastern edge of Austria produces a range of exciting wines that have impressed international wine buyers over the past decade. Austria's wine country, like Germany's, has a continental climate. But because the wine regions of eastern Austria are situated further inland and farther south, they enjoy warmer daytime temperatures, and regions like Burgenland can ripen a broader range of grapes, from Riesling and Grüner Veltliner to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Burgenland's limestone and slate soils impart a bracing mineral character to the fruit.
Pairings
Pair this subtle, medium-bodied Chardonnay with rich seafood, like a Dungeness crab or lobster salad with watercress or arugula, or try a rich poultry dish like Thai-style chicken coconut curry brightened with lime juice and fresh coriander.

Serve chilled (52°F).
Winemaker
Alex Schreiner, trained as both an engineer and a winemaker, began making his very own wines at age 21. His family had long been wine producers and owned enviable vineyards in Austria's Burgenland region, but Alex wanted to make wines that suited his own palate. He set out to try new things and to explore the full potential of his family's vines. Initially, his wines were experiments intended only for his own enjoyment, but they soon found an eager audience among friends and exporters, and the AlexS brand was born.
The Wine
This Austrian white offers a somewhat different take on Chardonnay, with delicate fresh clover, jasmine, tarragon, fresh apricot and almond aromas, and lemon curd, peach, citrus and mineral flavors, culminating in a lithe, long finish without obvious toasty oak influence.
