Origin

Napa Valley is synonymous with the finest of California wine. Just north of San Francisco, Napa is a Shangri-La for winegrowers, offering a great range of climates and soils and idyllic conditions for many grape varieties. The fruit for this sumptuous white comes from the alluvial soils of the cool Los Carneros viticultural area at the southern end of Napa Valley.

Pairings

This generous but graceful Napa Chardonnay is a good match for rich seafood dishes like pan-fried Dover sole with grapes and toasted almonds, or savory roasted chicken with thyme and lemon.

Winemaker

This three-year-old winery is a relative newcomer to Napa's Main Street, Highway 29. Situated in the Rutherford district in the central part of the valley, Alpha Omega was founded by Eric Sklar and Robin Baggett in 2006. Swiss-born Jean Hoefliger is the general manager and winemaker, aided by famed consultant Michel Rolland. The estate produces 8,000 to 10,000 cases of wine each year.

The Wine

This is the sort of Chardonnay that Napa is known for: sophisticated and sensuous, but not over the top. Its notes of jasmine, lemon chiffon, anise, vanilla and spice move seamlessly to flavors of lemon meringue, fennel and light toffee.
