The grapes for this wine are grown by Trevor Jones, who is known for his chipper demeanor and handlebar moustache. Jones owns property at the southern end of South Australia's Barossa Valley, where Shiraz and Grenache flourish, as well as some vineyards in the subzone of Eden Valley, where cooler temperatures produce some of Australia's finest dry Riesling. Jones also makes wine under his own label, Trevor Jones Fine Wines.
Riesling may be the most food-friendly wine of them all. It pairs well with a wide variety of foods, such as summery chicken or seafood salads, savory appetizers like a liver mousse pâté or medium-weight main courses like steamed Maine lobster with clarified butter.
Serve well chilled (47°F).
Betts& Scholl is a partnership between sommelier Richard Betts and art collector and bon vivant Dennis Scholl, who have partnered with star growers in Australia, California and France to produce stylish, food-friendly wines that have pure varietal character as well as a genuine sense of place. Betts contributes his vast wine experience and personal relationships with growers and winemakers, and Scholl sources the label art from high-profile contemporary artists.
Eden Valley Riesling is generally zesty and crisp with a dry finish, but also has great breadth and body. This one has fresh white peach, honeysuckle, honeycomb and lanolin aromas and minerally slate, nectarine, orange, lemon and lime zest flavors that finish bone dry with considerable acidity.
