Origin

Since the 1980s, the leading winegrowers of Mendoza, in the foothills of the mighty Andes, have improved Argentine red wines by leaps and bounds. The desert-like climate has proven ideal for Malbec, a grape native to southwestern France, and those wines have found great favor in the United States in recent years. Winemakers are now improving the quality of other grapes, like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot, and blending them to make even more complex reds.

Pairings

Malbec and Malbec blends are natural pairings for Argentine grassfed beef steaks, but beef is hardly the only suitable match for this varietal. Consider other red meats, like lamb, or even duck served with a fruit compote sauce.

Winemaker

Bodega Cicchitti was founded in 1982 by the soft-spoken and methodical Pepe Cicchitti. Despite the fact that his wines have received enviable critical kudos, he remains modest and has always kept his prices reasonable, earning Cicchitti a solid reputation for value as well as quality.

The Wine

This blend is more aromatic and elegant than a typical Mendoza Malbec. It has a pretty nose of black currant, cherry cordial, cedar, white pepper and camphor, and medium-weight berry, licorice and paprika flavors that finish bright and lively.
