Origin
Jumilla is one of the great up-and-coming wine regions in Spain, and its wines have made great inroads in America by delivering generous flavors at reasonable prices. Jumilla, located inland from Valencia, is particularly famous for its Monastrell, which is called Mourvèdre in Southern France. The extremely dry climate and sandy soils of Jumilla are particularly well suited to this finicky grape, producing low yields of concentrated, spicy fruit.
Pairings
Monastrell is full-flavored, but not so heavy or structured that it demands red meat. Chicken or pork are also perfect for this wine, especially if grilled with a sweet barbecue sauce or topped with a fruit compote. Charcoalgrilled lamb rib or shoulder chops marinated in red wine and bay leaves are another great match.

Serve at cool room temperature (62°F).
Winemaker
Bodegas Silvano García is quintessentially Spanish, respecting tradition while embracing innovation. The company was established in 1925 and has continued to adapt over the years. In 2002 the estate updated its viticultural practices, began selecting grapes for its wines with a more careful eye and completely updated its facilities. In addition to producing red, white and rosé table wines, this estate makes exceptional dessert wines, olive oil and delicious jams from Monastrell and Muscatel grapes.
The Wine
A terrific example of Jumilla's extraordinary values, this bold red has aromas of white pepper, boysenberry, black cherry, cardamom, anise and grilled meat. It is medium-weight in the mouth but packed with ripe boysenberry and cherry fruit with notes of chocolate and mace. A supple, full-flavored wine with bright fruit flavors.
