Origin
From the snowcapped Alps to the pristine beaches of the Amalfi Coast, Italy is a spectacularly diverse and stunningly beautiful country. But when people think of Italy, they often picture the olive groves, cypress trees and hillside vineyards of Tuscany. Located in central Italy between the Apennine Mountains to the north and east, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, Tuscany is the heart of Italy.
Pairings
The wine’s intense berry character and spice makes it a perfect match for the exotic spices of Indian or Middle Eastern food. Yet its acidity and verve also put it solidly in line for pairings with classic Italian dishes, from bistecca fiorentina to bucatini all’amatriciana.

Serve at cool room temperature (64°F).
Winemaker
A partnership between two accomplished oenologists, Giovanni C. Sacchet and Antonio M. Zaccheo, Carpineto was founded in 1967 with the goal of producing a wine that would be considered great not just in the region, but in the entire world. The two pursued this goal by not only limiting themselves to traditional winemaking techniques and a limited scope of vineyards, but by experimenting, exploring and diversifying. Today with vineyards in several top Tuscan subregions and a host of varieties, Carpineto has succeeded in becoming one of the world’s standout producers of Sangiovese.
The Wine
Carpineto is intensely proud of Dogajolo, which they call a “young Super Tuscan.” By that, they mean that it has similar character to the more high-end blends of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that captured the fascination of the world beginning in the 1980s. The wine exuberantly displays aromas of cherry and black plum, with backing notes of violet, dried herbs and earthy leather. It has great concentration and a long Cabernet-inflected finish.
