Origin
The Marche (Mar-kay) is a spectacularly beautiful region situated on central Italy's east coast. Stretching along the Adriatic Sea, it is also bordered by Abruzzo to the south, Umbria and Tuscany to the west, and Emilia-Romagna to the north. Most of its vineyard land is planted in the steep terrain of the Apennines Range near the point where it abruptly descends to a flat, sandy band of pristine coastline that lures vacationers from around the world. The climate is temperate, although drought conditions are common during the growing season.
Pairings
The Ciù Ciù Montepulciano is a bit of a revelation in terms of its depth, complexity, ability to improve with age, and prowess with food. Earthy ingredients such as mushrooms and herbs, or fruits like fresh plums or cherries, are all excellent matches for Montepulciano.

Serve at cool room temperature (64°F). Decant one hour before serving.
Winemaker
Located just outside the medieval village of Offida, the Ciù Ciù (pronounced Choo-Choo) estate was established in 1970 by Natolino Bortolomei and Anna Maria. The organically farmed vineyard is now under the direction of Natolino's sons, Massimiliano and Walter. Even though production has increased dramatically over the past 40 years, the Bortolomei brothers continue to manage the property with their father's unflinching focus on quality and respect for the land.
The Wine
When grown in low-yielding mountain vineyards, and made by small, quality-conscious producers, Montepucliano demonstrates how deeply satisfying this noble grape variety can be. Ciù Ciù's offering is a case in point. It displays intense aromas of red plum, black cherry, hibiscus and Szechwan pepper, which seamlessly set the stage for concentrated flavors of black plum, blackberry, espresso, dark chocolate, smoke and a touch of dried tangerine zest.
