Origin
Greece's Peloponnese peninsula has produced wine since the earliest days of civilization. Homer once referred to the region as Ampeloessa, meaning "full of vines," and this region continues to live up to that reputation. A wide variety of vines still dominate the countryside plains, hillsides and plateaus of the Peloponnese. Agiorgitiko, the principal grape in this red blend, is widely regarded as the most noble indigenous red grape of the region.
Pairings
Lamb, in just about any form, is an obvious match for this hearty Greek red, but this wine is also a terrific pairing for well-seasoned burgers, beef short ribs or kebabs.

Serve at cool room temperature (64°F).
Winemaker
George Skouras is a native of Argos, Greece, but he received his training as an oenologist at the University of Dijon in Burgundy. Today he owns two wineries, both in the Peloponnese, making wines that have earned great critical acclaim and re-establishing Greece as a producer of top-flight wine. Skouras was one of the first Greek winemakers to artfully blend native Greek grapes with international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Wine
Agiorgitiko gives this red a solid foundation of velvety, deep fruit, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure and darker fruit notes. It has lovely aromas of black currant, huckleberry, mint, dark chocolate and coffee, and bold black currant, licorice and mocha flavors finishing with bright acidity and supple tannins.
