Origin
The Languedoc-Roussillon region stretches along the Mediterranean coast from the Spanish border to the Rhône River delta near Avignon, and then inland to the foothills of the Cevennes mountains. With over 700,000 acres planted to grapes, it is the world’s single largest wine-producing area. Wines labeled “Vin de Pays d’Oc” may come from anywhere within the boundaries of the Languedoc-Roussillon appellation and, because of liberalized production and labeling requirements, generally offer extraordinary value.
Pairings
The Milou Chardonnay offers myriad pairing opportunities. It’s perfect with simply prepared shellfish and seafood recipes, but it will also stand up to poultry dishes. Consider lighter pastas or rice dishes, too, especially those featuring shrimp or scallops.

Serve chilled (47°F).
Winemaker
This wine was discovered by the folks at Valkyrie Selections, a California based importer, as they trudged, village by village, through the heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in search of varietally and regionally accurate wines that deliver almost embarrassing bang for the buck. Described by Valkyrie as the ultimate crowd pleaser, the Milou Chardonnay has since been embraced by lucky wine lovers across the country.
The Wine
Even though only planted relatively recently in Languedoc-Roussillon, Chardonnay seems to make shockingly good wine after ripening under the Mediterranean sun. This 2010 offering is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to capture and highlight the wine’s intrinsic fruit characteristics. (It never sees a splinter of oak!) While ripe and generous, it maintains its focus and exudes the very essence of Chardonnay: pear, apple and peach aromas lead in to flavors of plush tropical fruits, shaved coconut and raw almond.
