Origin
Located in the sunshine-bathed golden hills above the Cachagua region of Monterey's Carmel Valley and brushed by gentle cooling ocean breezes, Heller Estate Organic Vineyards has been producing luscious, fruity wine grapes since 1970. The Carmel Valley Appellation denomination was approved in 1982.
Pairings
Beef, lamb and duck with fresh herbs or sharp accents like olives, onions, garlic or aged cheese will be good matches for this mouth-filling wine.

Serve at cool room temperature (64°F).
Winemaker
In 1994, the vineyard was sold to a group of European investors, who immediately set about upgrading the winery and vineyards. The winemaker Rich Tanguay, formerly of Topolos& Buena Vista, oversees the production of these award-winning wines. The dramatic sculpture garden on the property, with pieces by Toby Heller, provides inspiration for the labels on Heller Estate wines.
The Wine
Meritage is a term some wineries use for their Bordeaux-inspired blends. This Heller Estate Meritage is a classic example of a "fruit-forward" wine. It's nicely balanced, big and bright with a luscious mouthfeel that explodes with intense fruit through the mid-palate. On the nose, the wine has black fruit aromas with notes of lavender, chocolate and smoke. Flavors of blackberry and plum are joined by hints of sage, black pepper and menthol.
