Côteaux de Languedoc is a large wine region of southcentral France situated on the Mediterranean coast. The Greeks likely planted the first vines in the area around 500 B.C., and this region still has its best years ahead of it. Local grapes like Carignane and Cinsault have been supplemented with arguably more noble Grenache and Syrah from the nearby Rhône Valley, resulting in finely layered wines perfumed with aromas of lavender, thyme, rosemary and other herbs that grow throughout the rocky, arid countryside
Medium-weight and aromatic, yet boldly flavored, Languedoc reds are quite versatile with food but pair especially well with savory, herb-seasoned dishes. Try braised lamb shanks, roast leg of lamb or roast chicken seasoned with lavender, thyme and rosemary.
Les Verrières de Montagnac is a small domaine, 50 acres of clay and limestone soil vineyards founded by three friends near Montpellier in the heart of the Côteaux de Languedoc region. Walter Pizzaferri is the lead capital investor, experienced winemaker Olivier Groux manages the cellar and Sebastien Pichot oversees sales and marketing.
This artfully blended, aromatic, spicy red has garrigue aromas of wild Languedoc thyme, tarragon, rosemary and lavender, with ripe raspberry and plum flavors and notes of graphite, almond, violet and bay leaf. It finishes with polished tannins and ample structure.
