Origin
Originating in the Swiss Alps, the Rhône River runs through one of France's most celebrated wine regions. The Rhône Valley's vineyards straddle the river for 125 miles from Vienne in the north to just below Avignon in the south. Côtes du Rhône is a sub-appellation that accounts for over 80 percent of the region's wine production. While 9 out of 10 Côtes du Rhône wines are red, this sub-appellation also produces many impressive whites.
Pairings
Viognier's inherent richness and opulent mouthfeel are similar to Chardonnay's, while its alluring floral aromatics are reminiscent of Gewürztraminer and Muscat. Despite often being high in alcohol and low in acidity, Viognierbased blends like this one pair nicely with more aromatic, full-flavored foods. Appropriate base ingredients include halibut, sea bass, crab, lobster, chicken, veal and pork. High-acid preparations can make the wine seem too rich and over-the-top, and are best avoided.

Serve chilled (52°F).
Winemaker
It all began on a school bench in Toulouse, when young Jerome Busato and his childhood friend, Bernard Bosc, promised each other that they would one day age wine in the Bosc family's 12th-century stone cellars. Many years later, after studying wine in Spain and marrying vintner Cheli Alberca, Busato returned to the Southern Rhône to establish Maison Rouge...;and to fulfill an old promise.
The Wine
The Maison Rouge Côtes du Rhône Blanc is comprised of 95 percent Viognier and 5 percent Roussanne. Grown in the clay- and limestone-rich soils of Northern Vauclase and fermented in stainless steel, it combines both briskness and richness. It is marked by distinctive aromas and flavors of nectarine, apricot, rose petal, acacia flower and citrus zest.
