Origin
You're probably familiar with Argentina's outstanding Malbec from the Andes foothills of Mendoza, and you probably know these reds have been a big hit over the last decade. Today, the most impressive thing about Malbec from Argentina may be how well its quality has kept pace with American demand for the wine. Malbec's success has drawn a lot of winegrowing and winemaking talent to Mendoza, and teams of international consultants and local oenologists continue to raise the bar. This Malbec is a fine example of the new breed of small-production, single-vineyard wines from Mendoza.
Pairings
In Argentina, they like their Malbec with just about any kind of meat fresh off the charcoal parilla grill. Grilled beef, chicken and sausage are all perfectly good pairings for this easygoing red. Don't skimp on seasonings--Malbec has plenty of ripe, sweet fruit to refresh the palate.

Serve at cool room temperature (64°F).
Winemaker
Andrea Marchiori and Paul Barraud, wife and husband, are winemakers for Paul Hobbs's celebrated Viña Cobos brand. Together, they make a very small amount of wine from Andrea's parents' 50-year-old vineyard in Mendoza, selecting a few of the best rows of grapes to produce small batches of their private label Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. With only 200 cases of each produced, we are proud to present you with this exceptional, handmade wine.
The Wine
Hearty, elegant and moderately oaked, this smooth red has aromas of milk chocolate, blackberry, black cherry, pomegranate, orange zest and star anise, and generous flavors of blackberry, juniper, black tea, licorice and mocha. It's enjoyable now but will age gracefully for 5 to 10 years.
