The region of Le Marche lies in east-central Italy on the country's scenic Adriatic coast. The commercial port city of Ancona is the capital of the region and the source of the Marche's outstanding seafood, from sea urchins and tuna to swordfish, anchovies and sweet shrimp, which are often enjoyed fresh from the sea as crudo, with a cool glass of Verdicchio.
Naturally high in acidity, Verdicchio is a good match for fresh seafood dishes, from brodetto, a rustic fish stew, to swordfish carpaccio with olive oil, lemon and mint.
Over the last 100 years, the Marotti Campi family has slowly built up its Le Marche estate to about 150 acres, planted mainly with indigenous varieties like Verdicchio and the red grape Lacrima. In 1999, the family constructed a modern winery that allows it to produce better wines than ever.
This crisp but complex white has aromas of pine nuts, lemon and lime zest and tarragon. It has ample body, with citrus, nectarine and apricot flavors finishing with a crisp minerality and a subtle note of almond skins.
