Origin
The rolling hills and alluvial plains of Carneros lie at the southern base of the Mayacamas Mountains in California, where Napa and Sonoma Valleys converge and dip into San Pablo Bay, a northern extension of San Francisco Bay. Cooled by the Pacific Ocean to the west and San Pablo Bay to the south, Carneros is cloaked in fog most summer mornings. Long a stronghold of exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wineries, the cool climate and well-drained soils of Carneros also produce excellent Syrah and Merlot.
Pairings
When pairing this Pinot Noir with food, consider its spicy red fruit, subtle earthy notes and moderate concentration. Seared duck breast seasoned with coriander and star anise is a good match, as is pork loin topped with a spicy cherry chutney or roast chicken with a mushroom and bread stuffing.

Serve at cool room temperature (62°F).
Winemaker
Nicholas Molnar escaped from Hungary just before the Communists seized power in 1956 and made his way to Northern California. Napa Valley reminded him of his native Hungary, and he started to acquire small parcels of land there in the late 1960s. In 1973, Molnar purchased grazing land and planted Poseidon Vineyard, selling his grapes to Napa legends like Joseph Phelps, Heitz Vineyards and Pride Mountain. Today Molnar's sons manage the property, and Michael Terrien makes the estate's own wines. The Molnar family and Terrien have also teamed up at Obsidian Ridge, a rising star estate in Lake County.
The Wine
There's a distinct spice and red fruit character to Carneros Pinot Noir that's expressed in this wine. It has clove, cinnamon and nutmeg aromas coupled with black cherry, wild strawberry, loamy earth and mint flavors. The oak is well-integrated with the fruit flavors, and it finishes long and even.
