Origin
Just an hour's drive north from San Francisco, Napa Valley's pastoral beauty and superb wines attract millions of tourists every year. Napa's star wine is Cabernet Sauvignon, which garners the highest prices and draws the most global praise, but this valley is a viticultural Shangri-La, favoring a great range of wine grapes. Sauvignon Blanc is native to Bordeaux, France, where grapes for it are grown alongside those for Cabernet Sauvignon. It is no surprise, then, that Napa Valley produces some of California's best Sauvignon Blanc.
Pairings
Sauvignon Blanc is a great match for oysters on the half shell, as well as most salads, especially a caprese salad of tomatoes with mozzarella and basil. A chèvre and chive omelet or yellowtail crudo with orange and mint will work equally well.

Serve well chilled (47°F).
Winemaker
For almost two decades, St. Supéry has produced benchmark Sauvignon Blanc from its home vineyard, Dollarhide Ranch, and other select sites. After a stint at Wattle Creek Winery, Australian winemaker Michael Scholz recently returned to St. Supéry, where he helped define their house style of Sauvignon Blanc during a previous tenure there between 1996 and 2001. In a valley where most wineries live and breathe Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Supéry's best seller is Sauvignon Blanc, which is a meaningful comment on the outstanding quality of this white wine rather than a critique of their Cabernet.
The Wine
Much of the Sauvignon Blanc produced in Napa Valley follows Bordeaux conventions. St. Supéry helped to pioneer an unoaked, clean and fresh style of Napa Sauvignon Blanc that earns consistent critical accolades. This white has aromas of gooseberries, lemon zest, white grapefruit, mint and honeydew melon. In the mouth it shows generous ruby red grapefruit, kiwi fruit and lime zest flavors through to a mouthwatering finish.
