Origin
The town of Klosterneuburg, located in the northern outskirts of Vienna, is home to Austria's largest oenology school as well as the historic abbey that produces this wine. Austria's vineyards are closer to the equator than Germany's, but also farther inland. Summer temperatures are hotter, producing white wines that are riper, more full-bodied and higher in alcohol than their German counterparts. These conditions are especially favorable for growing varieties like Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Chardonnay.
Pairings
Serve this full-bodied white with hearty fare like pork chops with applesauce, roast or fried chicken, grilled salmon with a ponzu sauce or trout beurre blanc.

Serve chilled (48°F).
Winemaker
The Stift (or "Abbey") of Klosterneuburg was established by King Leopold III of Austria in the 12th century. One of the oldest monasteries in Austria, it is home to 47 Augustinian monks from around the world, as well as the oldest continually operated winery in Austria. The monks of Klosterneuburg have devoted nine centuries to worship, scientific research and gastronomy on this estate. One of the only remaining monasteries to continue to produce wine, the Stift controls about 250 acres of vines planted to a diverse range of grapes.
The Wine
This opulent white wine has spicy clove, cinnamon, bergamot, guava and pineapple aromas and rich, mouth-filling grapefruit, lemon drop, pear and fennel flavors with complexity derived from the fruit itself rather than extended oak maturation.
