Origin
When George W. and Margaret Hendry purchased the original 120 acres back in 1939 and founded the Henry ranch, grapes had already been growing on the property for 80 years. The unique Napa Valley location, midway between the cool climes of Carneros and the warmer Yountville district, provides ideal growing conditions for a remarkably broad spectrum of grape types. With 11 different varieties planted on 117 acres, the Hendry family has, based on variations of soil, exposure and clonal selection, divided the vineyard into 50 distinct blocks, each of which is managed separately.
Pairings
Ultimately, it is the balance of fruit, acid, alcohol and tannins that make this Zinfandel from Block 28 so unique, memorable and delightfully food-friendly. It is a natural match for most medium-to full-bodied dishes, especially those that are grilled, braised or smoked. While most red meats are a classic pairing, this wine can also easily accompany many poultry and feathered-game preparations. And no need to hold back on the seasonings: It will stand up to green olives, capers, roasted red peppers, onions, black pepper and plenty of garlic.
Serve at cool room temperature (62°F).
