Origin
The Veneto is a large wine-producing region in northwestern Italy that extends from the Po River in the south to the Austrian border in the north and is sandwiched, east to west, between the wine regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige, as well as the Adriatic Sea. While best known for its increasingly well-made red wines—Valpolicella and Amarone— the region also produces some famous white wines, including the ever-popular table wine Soave.
Pairings
The bright citrus and fruit flavors make this wine a lovely aperitif to be enjoyed with hors d’oeuvres, cheeses and light meats. But its flavors also make it a natural with seafood like clams, scallops and squid. The wine’s juicy acidity allows it to work well with both classic European preparations (featuring lemon juice and butter or olive oil) as well as more exotic dishes with Asian seasonings like lemongrass, ginger and kaffir lime.

Serve chilled (47°F).
Winemaker
In Soave, there’s a huge gap between the majority of winemakers, who produce bland, generic white wine, and the handful of producers striving to make wines of real character and expressiveness. Daniele and Federica Nardello, the current proprietors of the domaine, are squarely in the latter camp. The Nardello family has been making and selling wine for several generations, and the most recent owners have brought their family’s winery into the upper echelon of Soave producers through hard work and lower yields.
The Wine
Made from Garganega and Trebbiano vines averaging 40 to 50 years in age, the wine showcases the Nardellos’ hard work in the vineyard. Perfumed notes of lemon zest, candied apple and beeswax are discernible in the nose, while hints of orange zest and lemongrass come through in the mouth. Long lees aging gives an underlying creamy texture, which nicely counterbalances the mineral spine and slightly stony texture. Good acidity lifts the wine to its breezy finish.
