Origin
Ribera del Duero, a high-plains region in central Spain, has been one of the driving forces of the Spanish wine revolution of the last 20 years. Its best wines are emblematic of the new Spain: they are thoroughly modern and highly crafted but still taste of their place of origin. Ribera’s altitude brings warm days and cool nights, while dry-farmed vines reach deep into the chalky clay soils for water and nutrients. Ribera’s reds are made with Tinto Fino, the local name for Spain’s noble grape Tempranillo, known for creating full-bodied wines that typically lack harsh, drying tannins.
Pairings
Lamb and pork are the classic accompaniments to Tempranillo-based wines, and the Torremorón is an excellent partner to both. With deep, juicy fruit flavors, fresh acidity and moderate tannins, it will stand up to hearty roasts, chops and pastas with meat ragouts. Dishes incorporating rosemary, thyme and oregano are natural matches for this Tempranillo.

Decant for one hour; serve at cool room temperature (62°F).
Winemaker
Bodegas Torremorón was founded in 1957 and was the evolving collaboration of 57 winegrowers who had all been cultivating their own land and competing against one another in what was, at that time, a fairly depressed wine market. Over the years, other top-quality growers were invited to join as the project found its groove. Greater success allowed the group to completely rebuild their winemaking facility in 1990, renewing equipment and introducing cutting-edge winemaking techniques to allow them to get the most out of their vines, which average between 20 and 50 years of age.
The Wine
The Ribera del Duero is renowned for making typically structured, dense Tempranillo, but nonetheless finding the elegance in what can otherwise be a somewhat burly varietal. This wine is a good expression of that balance, showing an immense depth of fruit, while offering an earthy undertone, a typically dusty finish and a firm, tannindriven structure. Its fruit notes run from blackcurrant to baked plum, with highlights of sandalwood, violet and cinnamon. Ribera wines are famously long-lived and this wine is young; an hour in a decanter will help soften it for early consumption.
