This wine comes from vineyards atop the Mayacamas Mountains, the range that separates Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley. Both sides of the rugged mountain range produce spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon that tends to be more structured and age-worthy than Cabernet from the valley floors below.
Protein tends to mitigate Cabernet's powerful tannins. Grilled or slow-cooked meats like beef or lamb are ideal matches for this wine.
Two Angels wines are crafted by second-generation winemaker Robert Pepi Jr. He sources the grapes primarily from high-altitude vineyards that have leaner soils and produce lower yields but more concentrated fruit. He makes Sauvignon Blanc, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine is made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with a smaller amount of Merlot blended in for complexity. It is matured for 18 months in primarily French oak and has plum, cassis, cedar and mint aromas. It is medium- to full-bodied with deep blackberry, cocoa, licorice, cedar and vanilla flavors.
