Chile's Colchagua Valley, within the larger Rapel region, is an easy drive south from Santiago, Chile's capital. It's a moderately warm valley that produces red wines of great finesse. Its rolling hills offer favorable conditions for growing each of the grapes represented in this blend.
Grilled meat is a great match for this mildly gamy, full-flavored red, from smoked beef or baby-back pork ribs to grilled steak or slow-cooked beef brisket.
This estate's vineyards were first planted by the Hurtado family in the early 20th century. The vineyards have been replanted over the last 20 years, and in 2002, a new visually and technologically impressive winery was built. Growing and winemaking are overseen by the highly educated, internationally experienced team of Bordeaux-based viticulture consultant Xavier Choné, chief winemaker Juan Alejandro Jofré and managing director and winemaker Ricardo Rivadeneira Hurtado.
This artfully blended red has aromas of black raspberry, plum, cola and chocolate with a juicy mouthful of jammy blackberry fruit and notes of licorice, bittersweet chocolate, toasted walnuts, cherry and pomegranate, finishing with moderate tannin.
