Origin
Paso Robles is located roughly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, on California's Central Coast. Drawn by limestone soils, which are relatively uncommon in California, French investors made this region a beachfront for Rhône wines in the U.S. by importing vine cuttings from the Rhône Valley. The balmy Westside district of Paso Robles produces great wines from red grapes, like Grenache, that can handle ample mid-summer heat. Nine years old, the Grenache vines of Denner Vineyard are reaching full maturity.
Pairings
This boldly flavored, juicy red is a good match for barbecued ribs or smoky tacos al pastor with cilantro, onion and salsa. It's also a great foil for a grilled steak or sautéed duck breast with a cherry reduction.

Serve at cool room temperature (62°F).
Winemaker
Cris Cherry is one of Paso Robles's most respected restaurateurs and winemakers. After his local produce-driven restaurant became an early haven for local winemakers in the up-and-coming Paso Robles region, Cherry decided to try his hand at winemaking. While many of his peers devoted themselves to Syrah, Cherry focused instead on Grenache, looking to Spain, as well as France, for inspiration. Applying his keen palate to wine production, Cherry has emerged as one of the Central Coast's winemakers to watch.
The Wine
Cherry includes 20 percent whole clusters, with stems, in the fermentation--a traditional technique that gives this wine added structure and a subtle brambly note. It has juicy pomegranate, red cherry, Santa Rosa plum and menthol aromas and generous cherry candy, plum, clove and roasted coffee flavors. It is delicious now but will develop nicely over the next decade.
