ORIGIN PAIRINGS

The ancient Greek grape Asyrtiko, grown on the volcanic island of Santorini, makes one of Greece’s best, and certainly one of its most popular, white wines. Greece is a treasure trove of ancient indigenous grape varieties, and Asyrtiko from Santorini is a great place to start an exploration of contemporary Greek wine.

In Santorini, this wine is often served with local seafood, but it also pairs well with light meats like chicken or veal and Greek yogurt sauces with lemon and herbs.

Serve chilled (48°F).

WINEMAKER THE WINE

Domaine Sigalas was founded in 1991 by Paris Sigalas and two other partners on the site of his longtime family winery. By 1998 the partners had built a new state-of-the-art winemaking facility, and over time their business has steadily grown. Today the domaine controls about 50 acres of vineyards near the town of Oia on the northern side of Santorini

This fresh white wine has a nose of apple skin, bergamot, tangerine and cinnamon. It has a viscous mouthfeel with flavors of fresh apple, white peach, pineapple and apricot and finishes with a slight saline sea-spray note that evokes the nearby Mediterranean Sea.
