Alsace lies on the French-German border, where the best vineyards are on the steep eastern slopes of the Vosges Mountains facing the Rhine River and German border. White wines, particularly Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer flourish in this cool climate. Alsatian Rieslings can be long-lived and develop complexity and great body with age. The Grand Cru Turkheim vineyard is on a southern-facing slope within sight of the Zind-Humbrecht winery.

Thanks to their high natural acidity and low alcohol, Rieslings are exceptionally versatile with food, including Asian cuisine. You’ll want to pair this one with foods that will match its luscious texture, like scallops or lobster.

Serve chilled (47°F).

WINEMAKER THE WINE

Zind-Humbrecht is helmed by Olivier Humbrecht, who has cultivated a style of uncommon richness, depth and complexity, thanks in part to extended aging of the wine on the lees. Zind- Humbrecht has also been a leading proponent of biodynamic farming practices, which eschew artificial pesticides and fertilizers in favor of a holistic approach to farming that encourages biodiversity on the farm and farming in concert with natural cycles of the sun and moon.

Showing exceptional richness and depth from the get-go, this white has decadent aromas of honeycomb, apricot, lanolin and tangy Rainier cherries. In the mouth it has tremendous presence, at once slightly viscous and crisp with slate minerality, apricot and orange zest flavors that finish just slightly sweet.
