ORIGIN PAIRINGS

The picturesque region of Alto Adige is located in the far north of Italy, nestled up against the Dolomite Mountains and Southern Alps that form the border between Italy and Austria. German is the dominant language in Alto Adige, but the locals have a very Italian appreciation for food and wine. This area is best known for its superb minerally white wines, especially Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc.

Sauvignon Blanc’s citrusy flavors are a natural complement to seafood, especially white fish with fresh herbs, but this is a very versatile white wine that will also pair well with creamy cow’s milk cheeses or recipes that include fresh or cooked tomatoes.

Serve well chilled (45°F).

WINEMAKER THE WINE

Founded in 1893, Andrian is the oldest cooperative winery, or kellerei, in the region. Its fruit is sourced from 338 acres of vineyards in the Dolomite foothills, where grapes are grown in limestone and clay soil at altitudes of 800 to 1,100 feet above sea level where the lean soils deliver concentrated, focused fruit. Under the stewardship of winemaker Rudi Kofler, the winery produces a full range of red and white wines.

This crisp, unoaked white has textbook Sauvignon Blanc aromas of fresh grass, lemon zest and passion fruit, and flavors of grapefruit, apricot, key lime and green papaya, with hints of tarragon and chamomile tea through the persistent dusty, minerally finish.
